How to Apply for Grants

Faith-based and other community organizations are eligible to apply for Department of Justice grants or contracts from the Bureau of Prisons, the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, the Office of Justice Programs, the Civil Rights Division, and the Office on Violence Against Women. The Department of Justice, through the Office of Justice Programs and the Office on Violence Against Women, also awards formula and block grants to state governments. State governments may then award sub-grants to faith-based and community organizations, among other types of eligible applicants. One of the goals of the DOJ Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships is to make sure that community organizations are aware of grant opportunities that are relevant to them. Our Center does not administer or manage any Federal grants. However, the information and links below can help you identify those grant opportunities where faith-based and neighborhood organizations are being engaged as partners throughout the Department of Justice.

• Bureau of Prisons
  The Bureau of Prisons awards contracts to for-profit and non-profit entities - including faith-based and other community organizations - for various types of services including the operation of halfway houses and substance abuse treatment. Active solicitations, or a request for contract bids, are posted at www.fedbizopps.gov, the federal business opportunities website.
  
  
• Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS)
  The Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Office provides grants to tribal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to hire and train community-policing professionals, acquire and deploy cutting-edge crime-fighting technologies, and develop and test innovative policing strategies. Tribal, state and local law enforcement agencies are encouraged to collaborate with faith-based and other community organizations. For COPS Office funding opportunities, click here.
  
  
• Office of Justice Programs
  The Office of Justice Program’s (OJP) mission is to provide federal leadership in developing the nation’s capacity to prevent and control crime, improve the criminal and juvenile justice systems, increase knowledge about crime and related issues, and assist crime victims. OJP is comprised of the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the National Institute of Justice, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the Office for Victims of Crime. • Office on Violence Against Women
  The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) coordinates the Department’s efforts to implement the Violence Against Women Act. OVW publishes program solicitations on its Funding Opportunities web page.
