 Office of Policy and Planning - Lewis S. Roach, Acting Executive Director
(09/20/2012)Lewis S. Roach currently serves as acting executive director of the Office of Policy and Planning. In January 2012, Mr. Roach joined the offices as deputy executive director after serving five years as director of national plans at the Transportation Security Administration. His TSA group led policy development and implementation of several national strategies and plans, strengthening security across all modes. Following the air cargo plot of 2010, Mr. Roach led the Global Mail Working Group, established by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano under her Air Cargo Security Working Group. A retired Brigadier General, Roach spent 32 years in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps serving six times as commanding officer of transportation and logistics commands in the active Army and Army Reserve. His civilian career includes over 20 years with Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, Calif. and Albuquerque, N.M., first as Traffic Manager, and later as a transportation research program manager. Mr. Roach’s civilian education includes a bachelor's degree from Tulane University, a master's in logistics management from Florida Tech, a master's in business administration from Golden Gate University, and he recently completed a Senior Executive Fellowship from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. His military education includes numerous courses in transportation and logistics, in addition to a one year Army War College fellowship at the University of Texas at Austin, which concentrated on national strategy and industrial policy. |
