5th Annual Summer Teacher's Institute 2012

Community Teacher Institute Petersburg, Virginia: History Underfoot

Attention area teachers! The U.S. Army Women's Museum, Petersburg National Battlefield, U.S. Army Quartermaster Museums and City of Petersburg Museums, and Historical Hopewell Foundation want to give you an opportunity to share this history with your students.

These premier Fort Lee museums are partnering with Petersburg National Battlefield, Historic Hopewell Foundation and City of Petersburg Museums to showcase the historical resources available to teachers in the Tri-Cities during a summer workshop.

The program, “History Underfoot: Community Teacher Institute Petersburg, Va.”, is currently looking for 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grade teachers for a four-day workshop that will be held in June. Teachers can submit a registration request now for this four-day workshop, where they will visit each of the host sites and learn how to incorporate historical photographs, museum artifacts, and primary sources into classroom materials.

Teachers will be selected to participate in this institute where they will visit Grant’s Headquarters at City Point, the Eastern Front unit of Petersburg National Battlefield led, the U.S. Army Women’s and Quartermaster Museums, Weston Manor in Hopewell, along with the Siege Museum, and Blandford Church and Cemetery in Petersburg.

Participants will engage in a hands-on look at historical resources and will receive resource files from each of these sites.
