The primary goals of the Forestry Branch are to provide a training environment for the 3rd Infantry Division and to provide endangered species habitat. Management for game habitat and sustainable production of forest products are accomplished in harmony with these priorities. Prescribed burning and timber thinning are the primary management tools. The forestry program of Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield are some the largest in the Department of Defense. Fort Stewart has the largest remaining acreage of the longleaf-wiregrass ecosystem in Georgia, and management efforts will maintain and increase this community far into the future. Notable accomplishments achieved include reforestation, timber stand improvement, prescribed burning, establishment and protection of unique forest areas, and commercial forestry.

Visit the website below to learn more about prescribed burning and the key role it plays in protecting our forests. Use the "Find My Forest" search tool to locate parks and forests in the area and the various types of recreational activities each one offers.
