The National Research Council (NRC) of the National Academies offers awards on a competitive basis for postdoctoral research at the U.S. Army Center for Environmental Health Research (USACEHR). • Discovery of Novel Biomarkers of Toxicant Exposure and Effect
  USACEHR's Biomarkers Program focuses on discovering biomarkers of exposure to toxic industrial chemicals and materials using genomics and proteomics with non-mammalian model species (C. elegans, zebrafish, and Xenopus frogs). Research opportunities exist to develop novel strategies for rapid biomarker discovery using these emerging technologies. More information...
• Cell-Based Sensors for Rapid Toxicity Assessment
  Cell-based sensors are becoming available that integrate biological systems with electronic monitoring, facilitating rapid response to developing toxicity in air or water. One current application uses these systems to help protect Army water supplies in both field and domestic applications. We are evaluating the ability of biological systems to respond rapidly to industrial chemicals with varying modes of toxic action at concentrations relevant to the protection of human health.
