Hundreds of thousands of American families become homeless each year. They may be “doubled-up” with family or friends, sleep in cars, move frequently, or separate from their children to avoid shelter life. In emergency shelters, families often live in overcrowded and chaotic conditions. Homelessness is highly stressful for parents and children. This page includes information about family homelessness.
