Homeless Populations / Veterans

In the United States, roughly ten percent of people experiencing homelessness are veterans. Among this group of veterans, three out of four experience alcohol, drug, or mental health problems. Alcohol and drugs may be used by veterans to mitigate the effects of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and/or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Browse the resources below to learn about the unique challenges faced by veterans experiencing homelessness and how to help meet their needs.

See also the Trauma-Informed Care topic page to learn more about best practices for serving people who have experienced trauma.
