In 2007, MSHA established the Office of Accountability in order to provide better oversight of MSHA's enforcement programs. The purpose of these audits is to ensure consistency with agency policies and procedures, and to verify that critical enforcement activities are being accomplished. In response to requests from the public, MSHA has posted the audit reports. MSHA has redacted from the reports some information, as appropriate, to protect personal privacy and on-going litigation.
